I graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Honours) from Sydney University in 1997 and joined the Australian Regular Army where I worked as a Dental Officer for 8 years. During my tenure with the military I was also posted to East Timor in 1999 as part of INTERFET where I was the first Australian Army dental officer posted on Active Duty since the Vietnam War.
I completed my Masters of Periodontics from the University of Sydney in 2008 and was awarded a High Distinction in my final examinations for the whole course. I have spent 7 years overall working in North Queensland, an area I first became enamoured with during my time in the military. I firmly believe that I was born to live in the tropics.
I have extensive experience in the field of Periodontics and have a particular interest in aesthetic implant dentistry as well as the links between periodontal health and systemic health. I believe that by helping people establish healthy dentitions that not only am I helping them retain their teeth for life but also helping them improve their general health. I understand that a visit to the periodontist can be a time of anxiety for most patients but patients often comment on how much at ease they feel in my presence. As a doctor, I recognise that my patients are unique individuals who have placed a great deal of trust in me and my team.
I have been a clinical tutor for dental students at the University of Sydney as well as James Cook University. As a dental professional, I stay up to date on the latest advancements in Periodontics in order to provide the most current treatment options for my patients. I am a firm believer in continuing education and regularly attend conferences in order to keep myself abreast of the latest developments in the fields of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. I have myself presented at several conferences in the past, both at a local and national level.
I count travel and hiking amongst my foremost passions. I enjoy staying fit, although I find myself being increasingly overtaken with alarming regularity on my evening jogs with the passing of every year.
I have the following affiliations:
Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons
University of Queensland – Continuing Professional Development Course Presenter for the School of Dentistry
University of Sydney – Clinical Mentor for the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants)
Member of the Australian Dental Association
Member of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists
Member of the Australian Society of Periodontology
Member of the Australian Osseointegration Society
Member of the Asia-Pacific Society for Periodontology
I have worked as a dental assistant at Townsville Periodontics and Dental implants ever since Dr Crasta started the practice. I am a local girl, having been born in Far North Queensland and have been involved in the dental industry since 2009 both in Canberra and Townsville. Patients often comment on my kind and caring nature and on my calming influence. My interests outside of work include hair and make-up and I find myself in constant demand with all my friends to look after their beauty needs.
Originally from Brisbane, I moved to Townsville in 2011 after travelling for 6 months with my partner and have been working alongside Dr Crasta ever since. I have over 10 years dental experience and after many years working chair side, I decided to give my back a break and take on a role in reception. I enjoy helping patients overcome their fears and putting them on the right track to good oral hygiene. When I’m not at work my partner and I enjoy taking our dog to the beach and dreaming of our next holiday.
